Switching On: How To Get Raring And Going For Life
7/4/2022 • 1hr 10m
How do we physically and mentally prepare ourselves for periods of productivity? In Episode #312 of 'Musings' Juan and I discuss: whether it is possible to be jacked and going all the time, why routine can take away effort in hyping oneself up, how we trigger ourselves into focused concentration, why Juan likes the Ultradian rhythm technique, a detour into the exciting new Podcasting 2.0 developments, how stimulants like coffee can be used and whether it is more important for us to have the ability to turn on or off.Yuge thanks to Petar the Perennial, Dave...

you should turn up thev4v talk. this stuff is important. patreon and PayPal have a demonstrable history of censorship / prejudice. ads both suck as part of the listening experience and can certainly sway journalistic endeavors. there is literally nothing left. not to mention there is zero innovation in the traditional podcast space. podcasting 2.0 and v4v is the future ….

Totally agree with Juan on this point. Everyone knows someone like that, by giving them a sympathetic ear, you are actually enabling their self-destructive behaviour. They might not see it this way, but you are doing them a huge favour by cutting them off in the long run.

Fighting The Negative Thoughts | Psychological Tricks To Stop The Neurosis
I always saw my brain producing depression chemicals as it's way of telling me that something in my life needs to change. Once I saw depression as just another evolutionary survival tool, I decided to listen to those thoughts rather than fight them. Kinda sounds like you might already agree.

I couldnt help think of those Indian oligarchs who build those insanely opulent homes in the middle of the slums, nobody goes crazy and attacks thier lambo when it drives by, I dont think anyone will go crazy when 5% of bitcoin moves, people will be able to handle that.

Agree with Kyrin about Strauss-Howe generational theory of societial collapse.. it's all a lot mystical unconvincing hooey. Read "The Collapse of Complex Societies" by Joseph A. Tainter for a rigorous, sobering, authoritative assessment of the topic.

Drawing An Ethical Line In The Sand | This Line WON'T Be Crossed
Ethical lines: A good friend of mine asked me to baptize his son a number of years ago. I wanted to but I decided that it would be hypocritical of me to stand in a church and pretend to believe in something I don't actually believe in, so I told him I couldn't do it. Unfortunately he didn't understand and hasn't spoken to me since. It really sucks losing my friend but looking back I feel good about being honest and adhering to my ethical standard.

To quote a philsopher Kyrin hates: "Marry, and you will regret it; don’t marry, you will also regret it; marry or don’t marry, you will regret it either way. Laugh at the world’s foolishness, you will regret it; weep over it, you will regret that too; laugh at the world’s foolishness or weep over it, you will regret both. ..."

"...Believe a woman, you will regret it; believe her not, you will also regret it… Hang yourself, you will regret it; do not hang yourself, and you will regret that too; hang yourself or don’t hang yourself, you’ll regret it either way; whether you hang yourself or do not hang yourself, you will regret both. This, gentlemen, is the essence of all philosophy." --Kierkegaard
