Hey Chris and Mike, I’m boosting in to show some .NET love! We’re a small startup so I’m not sure if that makes me a dark matter dev or not? Our frontend is a React+Typescript SPA and the backend is mostly .NET with a little nodejs - all containerised and running on Linux of course! .NET has excellent SDKs for interacting with Azure where we run all of the things. We deploy with Github Actions and develop in Visual Studio, so we’re all-in on the modern Microsoft stack… and love it!

So I absolutely think twitter is likely pretty boated. But the metric of code is a bit of an odd choice. In my experience as my career has gone on, and I’ve gone through to become a Principal engineer and now a manager, I write less and less code. I spend more time reviewing other people’s code, catching bad designs, overseeing early design plans etc. effectively being a force multiplier. Does that mean by Elons metric I am a bad engineer?

Hopefully JavaScript is never put in charge of something with that power. Is complaining about a stop light really "practicing engineering"? If you claim that a bit of napkin math is engineering, doesn't that invalidate your profession? Napkin math by a amatures is engineering so engineering is napkin math by amatures. I have 5+ black V-neck tshirts and 5+ black button down long sleeve shirts. It’s hard to think of an occasion when you can’t wear one of those. Makes morning selection a doddle. I say less-strict because it’s not a hard and fast rule, just a “default” selection I can always fall back to. Other outfits still apply. Would recommend to Chris: just buy lots of 1 top you like.

However, I just can't get behind their software at all. It makes zero sense and feels way to restrictive. Basic tasks that you can do on an Android, like arrange your screen icons are not an option on iOS. The software is what makes it a complete deal breaker for me. Thanks as always!
