great rip, thanks guys. there are two ends to the Bitcoin spectrum and they both matter. at one end is the raw code and at the other end is the people. this was a reminder how important the people are in this whole movement.

Building the Social Layer of Bitcoin in New Zealand with Bitkiwi Paul
I talk with Bitkiwi Paul about the next Bitkiwi meetup that is happening on Saturday October 28th in Auckland. We also discuss the social layer of Bitcoin in New Zealand and how it has grown enormously over the last 12 months.
This time last year I didn’t really know any Bitcoiners in person, but here we are with a thriving community of Bitcoin projects, businesses, and collaborations that I am involved in, and I know there are many others out there doing the same.
A lot of Proof of Work has gone into building on Bitcoin over the last few years and that is going to be important as more and more people start finding and learning about Bitcoin.

Overview of Eltoo, Covenants, and Vaults on Bitcoin with Rob Clarkson
I talk with Rob Clarkson about scaling Bitcoin’s Layer 2 Lightning protocol, and how changes happen to Bitcoin more generally.
Rob provides a technical introduction to some of the proposals such as ELTOO, APO, CTV, and we talk a bit about what covenants and vaults mean in Bitcoin.
Now I am still trying to work a lot of this out for myself and Rob does well to break it down and explain it. Even though these are quite advanced topics I think it is important to have the discussion and work together to understand what proposed changes to Bitcoin might mean and what the dangers and opportunities are.

this is a really important conversation I just don’t hear anywhere in mainstream NZ. if regular Kiwis can’t see how broken the system with the obvious example of house price unaffordability staring everyone in the face there’s no helping us. Appreciate Darcy using his platform to highlight this, I wonder what many of his mainstream clients think when they listen to this. keep up the great content Cody.

Building Fountain and Streaming Value with Podcasting 2.0 with Oscar Merry
I talk with Oscar Merry, co-founder of Fountain, one of the most popular Podcasting 2.0 apps.

Fountain has been a big part of the journey of this show, with many of you supporting my work from the beginning by streaming satoshis and commenting on episodes which gave me a lot of encouragement to keep doing the proof of work.

great insight on the NZ power grid and how Bitcoin can help. interesting to hear that both these guys, highly skilled technicians in an industry of national importance, view returning to NZ with their families as a trade off they made. ie they left better job and financial situations to be in NZ. we might have a problem one day with this in NZ. what if our best and brightest decide it’s not worth that trade off?

The New Zealand Power Grid and Bitcoin with Mike Lazelle and Brad Henderson
Today I talk with Mike Lazelle, Founder & VP at Red Phase, a New Zealand-based EV fast charging startup, and Brad Henderson Head of Engineering and Design at ElectroNet.
Both of my guests are Bitcoiners and have an extensive background working in the energy sector in New Zealand and abroad.
We talk about how the NZ grid and electricity market works, and some of the details of how new generations assets are built, and what the future of energy infrastructure might look like in New Zealand.
We also dive into the broader theme of proof of work and decentralisation as a philosophy and way of life.

great to hear a Kiwi perspective on ES. although I dare say Nicky and James probably will be Kiwis in absentia which is our loss. This is the Sovereign Individual thesis playing out, nation states competing for talent and offering incentives for high achievers to relocate. I drive all over the South Island and I think the roads are very good. thanks for the rip, the podcast is gaining great momentum now!

EPISODE
Fix the Money, Fix the World: Bitcoin as an Everyday Investment for the Future with Darcy Ungaro
Today I talk with Darcy Ungaro. Darcy is a financial advisor, a Bitcoiner, and he also hosts the NZ Everyday Investor Podcast.
This episode is very much a crossover where we talk about our views on Bitcoin and what the future may look like. Wealth and investment planning strategies traditionally involve things like real estate, stocks, and KiwiSaver, but for many people these pathways are no longer realistic options and more and more people are seeking alternatives, such as Bitcoin.
There is a lot going on out there. It sometimes seems like we are entering a brave new world where things will never be the same again. As the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius once wrote:
"Consider frequently, how swiftly all things which exist, are swept away, and carried off."
Perhaps it is the change presented by an unchangeable money called Bitcoin that will help us move in a better direction?

Thanks Ben & Cody. learnt a lot here. did not know that king tāwhio set up a full reserve bank. Tīno rangatiratanga literally means self sovereignty.

EPISODE
Māori Sovereignty and Self-determination Through Bitcoin with Ben Jarvie
Today I talk with Ben Jarvie. Ben is a Bitcoiner working for Amber App, a Bitcoin-only exchange, and he is also a writer.
In this episode we talk about a piece that Ben wrote for Bitcoin magazine titled "New Zealand's Past, Pūtea, and Future: CBDC vs Bitcoin".
In this article Ben illustrates a fascinating perspective on the contentious relationship between state & centralised money, and the Māori people of New Zealand.
The very existence of a singular undemocratic Reserve Bank of New Zealand goes against the principles laid out in the Treaty of Waitangi for self-determination, though this is conveniently ignored to instead focus on a seemingly unending culture war that sees the Reserve Bank co-opting Māori imagery and symbols of guardianship whilst simultaneously engineering a recession.
More broadly the article outlines how New Zealand has always been at the mercy of overseas banks and the monetary policy of the crown and we are still paying for this today.
Ben and I explore various avenues of discussion here, and we arrive at a place that sees Bitcoin present an opportunity for the empowerment and self-sovereignty of not only Māori communities but all of New Zealand.

EPISODE
The Success and Challenges of Bitcoin in El Salvador with Roberto Osegueda
I talk with Roberto Osegueda, a Salvadorian living here in New Zealand. We talk about Roberto's experience growing up in El Salvador among the backdrop of the civil war and gang violence, and how the country has managed to massively change its image over the last few years for the better. El Salvador adopted Bitcoin as legal tender in September 2021 and Roberto shares a very interesting take on the successes and the challenges of Bitcoin as a currency, and how it can perhaps serve as a positive model for other countries in Latin America and the world.
